Storytelling Approach

I've always been an observer. At age three, I was given the nickname, "Miss Excuse Me", because that's what I'd say before asking a question. As an adult, a beloved friend nicknamed me "Sargeant Questions." I haven't changed.

I'm drawn to everyday interactions that reveal something much larger about who we are.

I'm interested in the extraordinary hidden inside ordinary moments. The brief encounters, quiet decisions, and everyday exchanges that expose our fears, desires, contradictions, and ultimately, our humanity. Those are the moments that stay with me, and the ones I find myself returning to in my work.

I center Black women because that is who I am. Our humanity, complexity, humor, contradictions, and resilience deserve to exist on screen in all their fullness. While my work is rooted in lived experience, I'm ultimately interested in the things that connect us: our desire to be seen, our attempts to belong, the stories we tell ourselves about one another, and the choices we make when our dignity, identity, or sense of self is challenged.

After years of bringing other writers' stories to life as an actor, writing and directing have become a natural extension of my storytelling. I'm interested in creating work that invites audiences to look more closely at the moments we often dismiss, because I believe that's where people reveal themselves most honestly.

At its best, storytelling creates space for recognition. It helps us reconnect with ourselves and one another, making room for empathy, reflection, and, sometimes, healing. Whether through humor, tension, or quiet observation, that's the kind of work I'm committed to making.
